Payments in WhatsApp: what's possible today, and what already works in Switzerland thanks to TWINT

Paying directly inside a WhatsApp conversation is becoming a reality in some international markets. In 2025, WhatsApp offers native payment features in a handful of pilot countries, with the aim of gradually extending them.

Where are WhatsApp payments already available?

Today, payments built into WhatsApp are available in three key markets:

  • India: integration with UPI for instant payments between individuals or businesses.
  • Brazil: sending and receiving money by bank card, directly from the app.
  • Singapore: peer-to-peer payments and payments to authorised partner businesses.

🔒 These features are not yet available in Europe, and therefore not in Switzerland, where legislation and banking models differ.

In Switzerland: TWINT + WhatsApp = an alternative that already works

Even though WhatsApp's native payment feature isn't available here yet, it is already possible to take payments inside WhatsApp thanks to TWINT and its Paylink solution.

What Paylink makes possible:

  • Generate a payment link in seconds (with amount, description…)
  • Send that link straight into a WhatsApp conversation (or any other channel)
  • Receive payment confirmation in real time
  • All of it with no technical development and no complex integration

💬 A typical use case:
A customer asks you about a product or service on WhatsApp? You send them a TWINT link right in the conversation. They click, they pay, it's confirmed. All that's left is to update your order and stock flows.

Why it matters

  • You stay in a smooth conversational channel
  • You avoid the jump to an email or an external checkout
  • You keep the direct, human link with your customers

While we wait for native WhatsApp payments to arrive in Switzerland, this hybrid solution already lets companies offer a smooth, fast and secure buying experience, entirely inside WhatsApp.

At Sandra, we integrate TWINT and Paylink directly into your WhatsApp API environment for a complete conversational customer journey: from acquisition to payment, with no friction.
